Nunawading/Megamile Structure Plan Background Review

Location: Nunawading and Mitcham
Client: Whitehorse City Council

In mid 2018, Plan2Place Consulting led a multidisciplinary team to review the Nunawading/ Mitcham/Mega Mile Activity Centre Structure Plan (adopted in 2008) for the City of Whitehorse. Review outcomes achieved by Plan2Place Consulting included collating planning, economic, transport and urban design advice into a comprehensive Background Report. This report provided robust evidence for a series of targeted findings and actionable recommendations.

The review process included an audit assessing the success of the current structure plan implementation, an outline of new data and trends influencing the centre and an update of strategy and planning context. Combined, these have provided Council with a targeted review and the basis for an update of the structure plan.

Some of the key findings of the review highlighted the challenges of facilitating mixed-use and multi-storey affordable developments, while preserving commercial land for the future.

Review outcomes have provided robust evidence for Council to progress a substantial update of the structure plan, including the successful implementation of most actions and substantial State Government and Council investments.

This is one of the few, more recent structure plans to be comprehensively reviewed by a Council and provides a solid evidence base for any future updates.
